Michelle Obama, only a few days after turning 50, still hasnt reached her peak, she says in an exclusive interview with People magazine about her birthday, getting older. Today, Obama said her job as the first lady of the nation is “pretty high,” but she feels her life is “continuously evolving” and noted that she will only be in her early 50s when she leaves the White House. “I have much more to do than I should. I dont have the right to sit on my talents or blessings,” said the lawyer and former hospital director. “I have to continue to find ways to have an impact – whether as a mother, a professional, or a mentor to other children.” But while she is satisfied with how she looks and feels, the first lady said she would not rule out plastic surgery, Botox, or fillers one day. “Women should have the freedom to do whatever they need to feel good about themselves,” she said. “Right now, I cant imagine going down that road, but Ive learned to never say never.” The interview hits the news on Friday, when Obama turns 50. She told the magazine that she feels more confident than ever, crediting her vitality for being healthy, which means she is on top of her medical exams. She has never missed a mammogram or Pap smear, and she has had a colonoscopy. Obama, whose “Lets Move!” initiative targets childhood obesity, also eats healthy, although she said she doesnt “obsess over what I eat.” Obama said she recently changed her workout routine, moving from the usual weight training and cardio exercises to doing more yoga to maintain her flexibility. Obama told People magazine that she would like to one day be a grandmother like her mother, 76-year-old Marian Robinson, was to her teenage daughters, Malia and Sasha. She said she would like to help her daughters raise their own children one day, especially in the early childhood years when balancing family and career can be difficult. “I want to be a grandmother. But I might still be standing,” she said. “Ill have to balance everything – being a good grandmother and doing the work that interests me.” The interview with Obama will be available in the edition of People magazine, which comes out on Friday.
